Ellen Millard-Kern Joins Lehigh Valley Public Media as Vice President for Community Engagement
LEHIGH VALLEY, PA – January 24, 2023 – Long-time community leader Ellen Millard-Kern has joined Lehigh Valley Public Media, home of PBS39, 91.3 WLVR and LehighValleyNews.com, as its Vice President for Community Engagement. Kern most recently served as Chief of Staff for Pennsylvania State Senator Pat Browne, a position she held for over 17 years when Senator Browne was first elected to the chamber in 2005.
“We are thrilled that Ellen has joined our organization,” said Lehigh Valley Public Media CEO Tim Fallon. “She is an accomplished community leader who understands the important role that public media plays in our society – making the Lehigh Valley better tomorrow than it is today.”
In her role as Vice President for Community Engagement, Kern will lead the organization’s community relations efforts to connect and expand its outreach to the general public, community organizations, elected officials, and partners in such areas as economic development, education, health care, civic responsibility, and arts/culture.
“I’m excited to be working with the team at Lehigh Valley Public Media.” said Kern. “Supporting our community through our media platforms and educational outreach efforts is so critical to creating a vibrant community. I’m looking forward to contributing on this front.”
Kern has been a resident of the Lehigh Valley since 1986 when she first moved to the area from Western New York and joined the Greater Lehigh Valley Chamber of Commerce as their Vice President of Development. She spent 18 years with the Chamber before taking on her role with Senator Browne.
Kern has held numerous board and committee roles over the years and most recently stepped down as chair of the Lehigh Carbon Community College Foundation after 18 years. She was elected the first female President of the Kiwanis Club of Allentown and currently serves on the Board of the Allentown Symphony, the Great Allentown Fair, and Communities in Schools of Eastern Pennsylvania.
