Grocery Store Workers Earn the Title of Essential

Grocery store employees step up in wake of pandemic

The term "essential workers" has become synonymous with the COVID-19 Pandemic.

As we see videos and pictures of empty store shelves, and people hoarding toilet paper, the perception of who is essential is changing.

Paying tribute to the unsung heroes outside of the healthcare field.

Lois Gasser, the Director for Redner's Warehouse Markets in Palmer Township says "It makes you feel great to know you are essential, and the people can’t exist without your services. And I think everyone realizes and are being told how important they are."

But that doesn't mean employees don't understand the risk of going to work.

Lisa Haffner, Health and Beauty Coordinator at Redner's is a mother of three who also takes care of her mother. She says she's nervous she'll bring the virus home from work with her. "I get changed before I come into the house because I live with mother who is susceptible to what’s going on because off what she has with her heart, and my children. "
