POCONO TWP., Pa. (WLVT) - The Brookdale Recovery Center celebrated its grand opening on their 100-acre campus on Thursday afternoon.
“Anything we can do to demonstrate to a person that there’s a different life and a better way to live, so they can make better decisions, we’re going to employ here,” said CEO of Brookdale Recovery Center, Dr. Nicholas Colangelo.
The center has a total of 220 acres and they are providing swimming pools, tennis courts, a fitness center, yoga, fishing, and many more activities to help people during the recovery process. “While all of these things are wonderful and they help, the real truth is we’re about helping people get well and learning how to live their life in a way they can be in recovery,” said Executive Director, Joseph Mattioli.
The center will provide 110 beds for patients struggling with alcohol or drug addiction. Mattioli said they are going to work with Blue Cross Blue Shield immediately for insurance. They will work to expand to other providers in the future, and he also said they will have private payment arrangements based on your current financial situation.
When people hear the word “addiction” they often attach a stigma to it, according to clinical director, Dominic Vangarelli. “If you have that stereotype, you actually have to walk back from that and say it can happen to anyone,” said Vangarelli. “My guess is everyone is touched by this disease and that’s one way you can start to see beyond what the stigma is.”
Brookdale Recovery Center is looking to provide hope and change for people who are struggling, and they are looking to provide support for the families involved as well. For information on how to get help from Brookdale, click
