JONAS, Pa. (WLVT) - Veterans who need a place to stay or resources to help return to civilian life can turn to Paul’s House in Monroe County for assistance, and now, the house itself is also getting some assistance.
“I was sleeping in my car,” said US Army Veteran, Philip Scaggs. He had nowhere else to go until he found Paul’s House. “Every aspect of a veteran’s life, they already have a plan and a path for you to follow,” said Scaggs.
Paul’s House has been open for five years in the old Hotel Jonas. The house was opened by the VALOR Clinic Foundation, and they offer assistance to veterans who may be struggling to get back on their feet. Currently, Monroe County Habitat for Humanity is working to renovate parts of the house by doing projects like painting the exterior.
“Our veterans have served our country and we’re so grateful for them,” said Monroe County Habitat for Humanity Director, Kelly Kemmerer. “We operate with the help of volunteers, so when we can help another organization, one as important as VALOR that helps veterans.”
Habitat is still in need of the following supplies for renovations: Paint brushes, painting tape, ladders, paint rollers, and plastic bins.
If you are interested in donating, contact the Habitat for Humanity office at 570.216.4390. The renovations will be Monday-Friday through July 26. To become a volunteer, click
