ALLENTOWN, Pa. (WLVT) - Ray Holland built a fortune off of a hair salon.

The co-founder of Holiday Hair led a business that started in Allentown and grew to more than 200 locations in multiple states. But he gave back, too, immersing himself in Lehigh Valley culture and philanthropy.

Holland died Tuesday at Saucon Valley Manor in Hellertown. He was 82.

He served on numerous nonprofit boards and was instrumental in establishing the Lehigh Valley Heritage Museum and America on Wheels Museum in Allentown.

The former owner of the Hamilton Plaza hotel on Hamilton Street in Allentown, he headed the Allentown Economic Development Corp.

He is survived by his daughter, Lesley Fallon and her husband Tim Fallon, CEO of Lehigh Valley Public Media; a granddaughter Michaela Fallon; and Holland's companion, Kathryn Meyers.

The family plans a celebration of Holland's life in the fall. Funeral arrangements are by the Gilbert Funeral Home of Whitehall Township.
