ALLENTOWN, Pa. (WLVT) - Lehigh County Executive Phillips Armstrong says mail-in voters are making good use of the drop box at the county Government Center in Allentown.

It's available around the clock.

"We are getting such a great response for it," Armstrong said. "We are actually sending our certified county person from the voter registration office up to empty it twice a day. so we're getting 200 to 300 ballots already on an average day."

Armstrong wasn't the only one watching voters come in one after the other on Tuesday.

Ashleigh Strange of Lehigh Valley Stands Up helped organize an event outside to encourage people to participate in the democratic process. The deadline to register to vote in the Nov. 3 election is Monday, Oct. 19.

"We’re trying to create a cultural awareness, and a cultural norm around voting, around registering and being able to ask any kind of questions," Strange said.

She said about seven people registered within the first few hours of the day Tuesday, obtained a ballot and cast their votes.

Mail-in ballots will be accepted up until 8 p.m. on Election Day. They must be postmarked by Nov. 3 in order to be counted. Mail-in ballots can also be deposited in the five drop boxes around Lehigh County, or they can be handed in directly at the polls.
