UPPER MACUNGIE, TWP., Pa. (WLVT) - Air Products announced at its groundbreaking ceremony Wednesday the site for its new headquarters in the Lehigh Valley.
The industrial gas company, built in 1940, will be moving to 1940 Air Products Blvd. Vice President of Strategic Projects, Patrick Garay, said they have been planning this concept location for the past two years. “It was never in our mind to do anything different than staying in the Lehigh Valley,” said Garay.
Air Products has 16,000 employees, operating in 50 different countries. State Senator Pat Browne and State Representative Gary Day were in attendance, along with other local elected officials. “This is not just a celebration today in breaking ground for the new facility,” said Senator Browne. “It’s a celebration for the entire Lehigh Valley.”
The new HQ is being built near the intersection of Mill Creek Rd. and Highway 222 bypass. It will have nine floors for administrative offices, a research and development facility, and an enclosed parking garage for employees.
“A lot of sustainability related investments that we’re making, and they’re very visible,” said Garay. “People are going to drive up to the parking garage and see solar panels. They’re going to see the hydrogen fueling stations in front of the building. They’re going to see green roofs when they’re on the fifth floor looking down.”
The new location is expected to be finished during the summer of 2021. “When people start coming to their new place, it’ll be very exciting,” said Garay. “And I think today was a great day to see so many people come out and be with us.”
