State officials unveil the first of its kind COVID-19 Mobile Response Unit.

HARRISBURG, PA (WLVT-TV) - Taking testing on the road, the Pennsylvania Department of Health rolled out a COVID-19 mobile response unit Tuesday.

PA Secretary of Health, Dr. Rachel Levine, says “when someone visits the CATE mobile unit, they will receive a COVID-19 test, as well as education about how to stop the spread of this contagious disease.” The first of its kind in the nation, the RV-style vehicle is being referred to as “CATE” which stands for community-accessible testing and education.

“The lab tests will be processed actually in our state lab in Exton, Pennsylvania, for a quick turnaround of 24 or at the most 48 hours," says Dr. Levine. Over the next two months, CATE is expected to make stops in 16 counties across Pennsylvania to serve as an educational tool and walk-up testing site targeting minority and underserved communities.

George Fernandez from Latin Connection says, "For those who already had an uphill battle against food disparity, food, nutrition, chronic Illness, lack of education and lack of adequate health care, they are now facing COVID-19 with very limited resources to protect themselves and the ones they love.“

Anyone who has symptoms or may have been exposed to the coronavirus can get tested for free on a first-come-first-serve basis.
