CARBON COUNTY, Pa. (WLVT) -The new visitors center at Hickory Run State Park opened in the spring in celebration of the park's 75th anniversary. The facility's educational exhibits opened to the public in October, bringing the outdoors indoors. This educational experience shows guests what there is to see in the 16,000 acre complex, which includes Lehigh Gorge State Park and Nescopeck State Park. Assistant Park Manager Nick Sherlock says it's a starting point for visitors of the park.

“All of the exhibits are interactive to some degree. It’s a great way for kids to learn or anyone, all ages but it’s very hands on. And it gives you the baseline knowledge, so when you go out to see Boulder Field or Hawk Falls, you already have an idea of how this was formed or what’s here, and what you can also learn about it once you’re out there," says Sherlock.

Some exhibits are not open due to COVID-19, and the programs and special events planned for the space will have to wait until after the pandemic.
