FRANKLIN TWP., Pa. (WLVT) - Beltzville State Park in Carbon County is home to Beltzville Lake, which brings swimmers and picnickers from near and far. Some concerned citizens were there Saturday giving out trash bags, including Eileen Hofacker of Kunkletown.

“People have been laying their trash all over our beautiful state park. And it’s not only here at the beach area, but the other trails too," Hofacker says. "They are leaving trash, and drinking alcohol, playing loud music, and just not following the park rules."

State Rep. Doyle Heffley, R-Carbon, says crowds at the park have been an issue for years, and the pandemic has made the park more popular this year. He sent a letter to the state Department of Conservation and Natural Resources asking that Beltzville be restricted to Pennsylvania residents only. DCNR has not restricted access to the park, but provided additional park rangers and trash cans.

Concerned citizens hope that people who visit the state park will be more respectful.
