READING, Pa. (WLVT) - Classes in the Reading School District are set to start on Monday, but because of the pandemic roughly 18,000 students and 2,000 faculty members will be learning and teaching from home.

Reading School Board President Robin Costenbader-Jacobson says the plan is far from perfect.

"Of course there are the concerns of 'Who's going to watch my children,' or 'I'm already back to work.' That's something the entire community and society needs to come to grips with, and I hate to say it but employers need to deal with it as well," she said.

All fall sports are being suspended in the meantime, too.

Costenbader-Jacobson says officials couldn't justify athletics, with no classes.

"How do you close down the primary reason for schools' existence, for teachers teaching, right? But then get out on the court or the field."

The district was able to secure Chromebook laptops, as well as Comcast Internet service for those who those who can't afford it.
